The Glebe Field Project

Latest News on the Development

October 2011 - Phase 1 is almost complete.  Our main contractors, South Wales Sports Grounds, have levelled the field, seeded the outfield and laid the square.  The next phase will be the completion of the car park. Then, hopefully, the pavilion will be next on the agenda, but, of course this will mean some more serious fundraising to augment the ECB grant and loan that we have already been awarded.

The photos show the development of the ground from July to October 2011.

Wednesday 1st June 2011 The work on the field has now commenced.  South Wales Sports Grounds began by spraying with selective weedkiller and then removing the top layer of grass - the pictures above and below show Glebe Field Project leads Mick Fisher and Dave Sylvester at the field on the historic day (Photos courtesy of Dave Shields)

: The Vale of Glamorgan Council Planning Committee have now given approval for the Glebe Field development.

The work is now expected to commence in June

Tuesday 15th March 2011 was a red letter day for Centurions.  We have now received confirmation that the England and Wales Cricket Board will be supporting the Glebe Field project by agreeing to an interest free loan and a substantial grant.

This news means that as soon as the last planning hurdles are cleared we can get down to the business of getting the ground developed.  The planners are currently asking for some assurances regarding the safety of residents in adjoining properties and issues around traffic control.  However, although these concerns are important, we are confident that we can convince the planning committee that there is no cause for concern.

The club has appointed 'South Wales Sports Grounds' to do the work on the ground and our next target is to hold a meeting with them in order to agree the start date and confirm the timetable for the job. The South Wales Sports Grounds website can be found here

Sully Centurions have long cherished the notion of obtaining our own ground where we can have all four senior and junior teams playing and have our own clubhouse.

The Glebe Field, opposite the church in Sully, is the ideal spot for this venture.  We have obtained a lease from the landowners and have set in motion the train of events that we hope will eventually lead to us having this first rate cricket facility in Sully.  We have appointed Butlin Consulting to manage the project, alongside the club committee.

We were also fortunate enough to receive the backing of local Assembly Member Chris Franks, who has pledged to support us in this exciting project.  We hope to show the development of the field over the next few years up until the first match is played there.  However, achieving this goal will require a lot of hard work and, of course, money!  We are hopeful of getting grants, loans and other assistance from various bodies, both national and local, including the ECB as well as attracting sponsorship for the venture.

You can help us by joining the Green and Gold Club, which gives life membership of the club for a one off price of £750 (the cost of which can be spread if required).
